‘The FoodOn Ontology’ by Damion Dooley – 22.07.2024

We would like to invite you to a talk by Damion Dooley from Simon Fraser University titled “The FoodOn Ontology, a child of the OBO Foundry village”.

Abstract:
FoodOn, part of the OBO Foundry family, describes human and animal food sources and products. Initially for foodborne disease epidemiology, it now includes food inspection, composition, nutrition, and agricultural production. FoodOn balances precomposed and post-composed food terms and aims to standardize food descriptions, including processing steps, for traceability and safety. The talk will cover FoodOn’s vocabulary within OBO ontologies and a model for food recipes, discussing incremental vocabulary development within open-source ontologies.

The talk will take place on Monday, 22nd July 2024, at 9:30 AM in the Rotunde, Cartesium.
