The EASE Fall School offers an opportunity to delve into the exciting field of cognition-enabled everyday activity robotics. Designed to provide insight into Everyday Activity Science and Engineering, our Fall School allows doctoral students to explore AI, robotics, and the complex field of robot manipulations. Through lectures and hands-on courses, participants can exchange ideas and perspectives with invited speakers and experts from the collaborative research center EASE. This year, the event is supported by the euROBIN project and will be hosted at both the University of Bremen, Germany, and Michigan University, USA.

Venues

This year, the EASE Fall School is breaking new ground by hosting a collocated event simultaneously in the United States and Germany. With venues at both the University of Bremen in Germany and Michigan University in the US, the event aims to foster a truly international exchange of knowledge and ideas. This dual-location format presents a unique opportunity for participants on both sides of the Atlantic to engage with the latest advancements in cognition-enabled everyday activity robotics.

Courses

Workshops and hands-on courses have been organized with the time zone differences in mind. Sessions are staggered so that when one group is attending a live workshop, the other group might be engaged in pre-recorded lectures or asynchronous activities. This approach ensures that both groups have access to the same high-quality content while accommodating their respective local times. Additionally, all sessions are recorded and made available for later viewing, enabling participants to catch up on any content they might have missed due to the time difference.

Research

The Robotics team at the Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IAI) at Universität Bremen is directed by Prof. M. Beetz. The team focuses on research in robotics and artificial intelligence and includes methods for knowledge representation for robots among other approaches.

Funding

The Fall School has been supported by the German Research Foundation DFG, as part of Collaborative Research Center (Sonderforschungsbereich) 1320 “EASE - Everyday Activity Science and Engineering”, University of Bremen.

Tentative Program

With a six-hour time difference between Michigan and Bremen, we carefully careful plan our schedule to ensure that participants from both locations can attend key sessions and collaborate effectively. The schedule has been designed to maximize overlap during the central part of the day for both locations. For instance, joint sessions such as keynote lectures and panel discussions are scheduled during late morning in Michigan, which corresponds to the late afternoon in Bremen. This allows participants from both sites to join these sessions live, fostering real-time interaction and discussion.
